President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has held discussions with French businessman Vincent Bolloré in Paris on plans to expand investment in Nigeria’s creative and digital economy.
The meeting, held on Thursday during the President’s working vacation in France, focused on deepening the localisation of Bolloré Group’s operations in Nigeria across film, entertainment, fibre-optic infrastructure and related sectors.
According to a statement issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Bolloré and his executives presented a series of proposed investments targeted at Nigeria.
The group, whose media and digital interests include Canal+, MultiChoice and Universal Music Group, described Nigeria as a major driver of Africa’s cultural renaissance, citing the international reach of Nollywood and Afrobeats.
The discussions also centred on increasing local production and strengthening the infrastructure required to support Nigeria’s rapidly expanding digital and entertainment industries.
President Tinubu welcomed the investment plans, saying Nigeria’s growing global cultural influence provides an opportunity to attract more production, investment and employment opportunities to the country.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting investments capable of expanding the creative and digital economy, developing local talent and strengthening digital infrastructure.
The President also said the government would continue working to position Nigeria as a base for businesses seeking to serve the African market and wider global economy.
According to Tinubu, the Renewed Hope Agenda is aimed at building an economy where Nigeria’s talent, enterprise and growing international cultural influence can translate into increased opportunities and improved livelihoods for citizens.
The meeting comes amid growing international interest in Nigeria’s entertainment and digital sectors, particularly Nollywood and Afrobeats, which have become significant channels for projecting Nigerian culture globally.
The Presidency did not disclose the financial value, implementation timeline or specific projects attached to the new investment plans announced during the Paris meeting.
The Pivot Online will continue to monitor developments surrounding the proposed investments and their potential impact on Nigeria’s creative industry, digital infrastructure and employment opportunities.
