In a landmark achievement for grassroots football, Optimum Football Club of Owo has become the first team from Ondo State to gain promotion to the Nationwide League Division One, achieving the feat in their debut season.
The youthful side, largely made up of secondary school students, stunned fans with their impressive displays, capping it off with a historic promotion that has put Owo on the national football map.
Their success earned royal recognition as the Olowo of Owo, His Imperial Majesty Oba (Dr) Ajibade Gbadegesin Ogunoye III, hosted the team at his palace, commending them for their discipline and for bringing pride to the kingdom.
Optimum Football Consultancy, owners of the club, described the promotion as a victory for grassroots development. Media Manager, Femi A., said the milestone reflects the organization’s vision of identifying and nurturing young talents to compete at the highest level.
“This is only the beginning,” he said. “Our dream is to create pathways for these boys to reach national and international stages.”
The feat has been hailed as a turning point for grassroots football in Ondo State, with Optimum FC now seen as a beacon of hope for aspiring players across Nigeria.
