The Chairman of the 60th Anniversary Planning Committee of Methodist High School, Owo (MHSO), Surveyor Ajayi Thomas, has emphasized the importance of alumni giving back to their alma mater to address pressing challenges, particularly in infrastructure and staffing.
Speaking at a press conference at the school auditorium, Ajayi stated that while it is the government’s responsibility to fund schools, old students must also contribute to their development, as their education shaped their future.
He highlighted the deteriorating state of classrooms and inadequate teaching staff as major issues affecting the school’s academic standard.
To address this, he revealed that the alumni association has set up both medium and long-term intervention plans.
These include the construction of a modern science laboratory, with its foundation to be laid during the anniversary celebrations, and the completion of the school’s perimeter fencing before its 70th anniversary. Additionally, classrooms will be renovated within the next two years.
The week-long 60th anniversary celebration kicks off on Monday, March 10, with prayers and a march to the Olowo of Owo, Oba Ajibade Gbadegesin Ogunoye III.
A key highlight will be the grand finale of the maiden JF Ayeleso Inter-Class Football Competition on Friday, March 14, featuring former Green Eagles player, Dr. Felix ‘Owoblow’ Owolabi, as the special guest of honor.
The celebrations will conclude on Sunday, March 16, with a thanksgiving service at the Methodist Church, Fajuyi Road, Owo.
