₦180m Alleged Entitlements: Fresh Claims, Denial Stir Questions Over Aiyedatiwa–Adelami Relationship

By The Pivot Online News Desk

Fresh allegations over the alleged non-payment of official entitlements to Ondo State Deputy Governor, Dr Olayide Adelami, have triggered renewed political discussion about the relationship between him and Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa.

The claims, which have circulated in recent reports, include an alleged backlog of more than ₦180 million in running expenses, travelling allowances and other official entitlements said to have accumulated over several months.

However, The Pivot Online has not independently verified the ₦180 million figure or established from official records that the amount is actually outstanding.

More significantly, a political group in Ondo State on Monday publicly debunked the ₦180 million allegation and denied any plot to impeach Adelami, describing the claims as unfounded. The denial was published by Roving Reporters, which had earlier carried the allegations.

The conflicting claims make the issue one that requires clarification from the offices directly concerned.

Alleged Financial Obligations

The allegations centre on claims that Adelami has been unable to access substantial funds allegedly meant to support the discharge of his official responsibilities.

Some reports have linked the alleged non-payment to the office of the Commissioner for Finance, Mrs Omomumi Isaac.

The Pivot Online, however, could not independently establish that the Commissioner personally ordered the withholding of any funds belonging to the Deputy Governor.

Neither the alleged ₦180 million liability nor the circumstances surrounding its purported accumulation have been publicly substantiated with documentary evidence available to this newspaper.

Consequently, the figure should be treated strictly as an allegation, pending clarification from the relevant authorities.

Political Exclusion Claims

Beyond the financial allegations, there are claims that Adelami has been increasingly excluded from political arrangements within the administration, including appointments at state, local government and ward levels.

One allegation is that the Deputy Governor was unable to influence the selection of a councillor representing his ward.

The Pivot Online could not independently verify the claim or establish whether any such development resulted from a deliberate decision by the Governor or was part of normal political competition within the ruling party.

Similarly, allegations that Adelami has been deliberately sidelined from important political decisions require evidence before they can be treated as established fact.

Questions Over Local Government Affairs

There are also allegations concerning the role of the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Amidu Takuro.

According to the claims, the commissioner has handled some local government and chieftaincy matters without adequately carrying the Deputy Governor’s office along.

However, The Pivot Online has not independently established that the Deputy Governor’s office was deliberately bypassed or that the development represents a breakdown in the constitutional or administrative relationship between the two offices.

The allegation nevertheless raises questions about coordination within the executive arm of government and deserves clarification from the officials involved.

Earlier Impeachment Speculation

The latest controversy has also revived speculation about the political relationship between Aiyedatiwa and his deputy.

But there is no publicly established evidence of a formal impeachment process against Adelami.

Indeed, Governor Aiyedatiwa had previously dismissed reports of an impeachment plot against his deputy.

Speaking in February 2026, the governor described Adelami as a loyal deputy and said he had committed no offence warranting his removal. The denial was reported by major Nigerian newspapers, including The Guardian and Premium Times.

That position is important in assessing current claims of an impending political confrontation.

What Is Established — And What Is Not?

At present, the available information establishes that allegations concerning Adelami’s alleged financial entitlements and political influence are circulating.

It does not, however, establish that:

₦180 million is definitely owed to the Deputy Governor;

the Finance Commissioner withheld the money;

Governor Aiyedatiwa ordered that Adelami’s entitlements be stopped;

Adelami has been deliberately excluded from government;

the Deputy Governor is being systematically stripped of his constitutional responsibilities; or

an impeachment process has commenced against him.

Those distinctions are important for responsible journalism.

Why the Matter Matters

The controversy is significant because the Governor and Deputy Governor occupy the two highest elected executive offices in Ondo State.

A healthy working relationship between both offices is therefore important to the effective functioning of government.

If the financial and political allegations are eventually substantiated, they could raise legitimate questions about the administration’s internal coordination and the resources available to the Deputy Governor to perform his official responsibilities.

If, on the other hand, the allegations are unfounded, the public is equally entitled to know that and to understand the facts behind the controversy.

For that reason, The Pivot Online considers the appropriate next step to be clarification rather than speculation.

The newspaper calls on the offices of the Governor, Deputy Governor and Commissioner for Finance to provide factual explanations concerning the alleged financial obligations.

The Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs may also need to clarify the extent of the Deputy Governor’s involvement in matters relating to local government and chieftaincy administration.

The Pivot Online’s Position

At this stage, the ₦180 million claim remains unverified, while the allegation of an impeachment plot has been publicly denied.

The Pivot Online will therefore not present either claim as established fact.

The central question is whether there are genuine administrative disagreements between the Governor and his deputy or whether the controversy is being driven largely by political speculation.

Until credible documentary evidence or on-record statements from the relevant officials emerge, claims of a deepening political crisis should be treated with caution.

For the people of Ondo State, the larger issue goes beyond Governor Aiyedatiwa and Deputy Governor Adelami.

It is about transparency, accountability and the effective functioning of the government they elected.

The Pivot Online will continue to monitor developments and update this report as verifiable facts emerge.
