The Pivot Online reports that the Commissioner of Police in Ondo State, CP Adebowale Lawal, has reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to ensuring lasting peace and security across the Akoko axis of the state, urging residents of Akungba-Akoko to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies in the fight against crime.
Speaking during an interactive session with community leaders and security stakeholders in Akungba, CP Lawal underscored the strategic importance of the Akoko region, which shares borders with Ekiti, Kogi, and Edo States, describing it as a critical corridor for crime prevention and intelligence operations.
The Commissioner commended the Governor of Ondo State for his continued support to security agencies and expressed appreciation to the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) for prioritizing the strengthening of the state’s security architecture.
He warned against the use of commercial motorcycles (Okada) for criminal activities and urged riders to always wear identifiable jackets for easy recognition. Lawal also encouraged residents to promptly report suspicious movements or persons to the police, traditional rulers, or PCRC representatives, stressing the popular security mantra: “If you see something, say something.”
Acknowledging Akungba’s peculiar challenges as a university town, the Police Commissioner called for restrictions on the movement of heavy-duty trailers through the area to prevent accidents and improve overall community safety.
Earlier, the Chairman of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) in Akungba, Chief Olodoode, commended the proactive efforts of the Commissioner of Police, the Divisional Police Officer in Akungba, and the Alale and Paramount Ruler of Akungbaland, HRM Oba Oseni Isiaka Adu, Agure I, in promoting peace and stability within the community.
Chief Olodoode also appealed for the establishment of an additional police post and another police station to meet the growing security needs of the fast-developing university community.
Similarly, the representative of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in Akoko called for enhanced mobility support for police patrols and urged stronger cooperation between transport operators and security agencies. He also requested more identification cards for union members to curb impersonation and strengthen security coordination.
CP Lawal expressed appreciation to Hon. Gboyega Adefarati for donating a Hilux patrol vehicle to the Akungba Police Division and thanked the Alale and Paramount Ruler of Akungbaland for his consistent support toward maintaining peace.
