Troops of the 63 Brigade of the Nigerian Army have rescued a senior officer, Major M.D. Josiah, who was abducted by gunmen on Monday in Bomadi Local Government Area of Delta State.
This was disclosed in a statement issued in Abuja on Tuesday by the Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 63 Brigade, Captain Iliyasu Bawa Rijau.
According to the statement, the officer was freed following meticulous intelligence gathering and close collaboration with community leaders and residents of Bomadi. The joint effort enabled troops to track the abductors and rescue the officer at Tuomor Waterside in Bomadi LGA.
Major Josiah, who sustained gunshot wounds during the operation, has since been evacuated to a medical facility where he is receiving treatment.
The Commander of 63 Brigade, Nigerian Army/Sector 1, Joint Task Force South South, Operation DELTA SAFE, Brigadier General M.A. Shonibare, commended the professionalism and bravery of the troops. He also expressed appreciation to the people of Bomadi for their cooperation, describing it as a sign of deepening trust between the Army and local communities in the fight against crime.
He stressed that the successful rescue underscored the Army’s capacity to respond swiftly to security threats, reaffirming its commitment to safeguarding lives and property across Delta State and the South-
South region.
