Ahead of the 2027 general elections, the 2023 presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has declared that he has no plans to dump the party, though he remains open to political discussions.
Speaking yesterday in Abuja at the 9th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the NNPP, Kwankwaso dispelled speculation about his political future.
“Many people thought today we will announce whether I will stay in NNPP or go to another party or join some individuals. That was never the intention of this meeting,” he said.
“We have our party and we are comfortable. We are happy. We are ready to do whatever it takes, because we are not in a hurry. The members, the leadership, and all of us believe we have something to offer at the highest level of leadership in this country, but we want to do it the right way.”
Kwankwaso stressed that while the party is open to alliances, any negotiation would be done collectively.
“We are flexible. We are ready to talk to anybody. As far as we are concerned, we will continue to ensure fairness for everybody. More and more people are joining us, and any decision on negotiation will be collective,” he added.
In his welcome address, NNPP’s National Chairman, Dr. Ajuji Ahmed, said the party would again present Kwankwaso as its presidential candidate in 2027.
According to him, the NNPP is “the beautiful bride of Nigerian politics,” noting that the party is not only waxing strong but is also becoming the most sought-after political platform as the 2027 race approaches.
