The fearless Oyo State-born preacher’s death was announced by Sheikh Akewugbagold Taofeek, an Ibadan-based cleric, in a Facebook post on Friday. Sheikh Akewugbagold expressed profound grief over the loss, describing it as one of his saddest days.
“Today is one of my saddest days! My father and mentor has returned to his creator. SULTONUL WAHIZEEN of Yorubaland, Sheikh Muhyideen Ajani Bello, may Allah be pleased with your soul. Aljannah Firdaus for you. Our hearts are full of grief, and our eyes full of tears, but we will say nothing except what pleases our Creator, the sole commander of life and death – ALLAH,” he wrote.
The cleric prayed for the departed soul, wishing him eternal peace in paradise.
Similarly, the scholar’s son, Alhaji Basit Olanrewaju Katibi Bello, popularly known as Aponle Anobi, confirmed the news in a social media post. Accompanying a picture of the Sheikh, Aponle Anobi shared crying emojis but provided no further details.
Born in 1940 to Alhaji Bello Ajani and Alhaja Ubaidat Bello of the Arolu Compound, Ita Olukoyi, Ibadan, Sheikh Muhydeen was a revered figure whose contributions to Islamic scholarship and preaching resonated across Yorubaland and beyond.
