The College of Education and Entrepreneurship Studies, Lessel, located in Ushongo Local Government Area of Benue State, has received approval to run degree programmes in education-related disciplines.
The approval followed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the College and Adekunle Ajasin University (AAU), Akungba Akoko, Ondo State. The agreement authorises the College to offer degree programmes in education under the academic supervision of AAU.
The MoU signing ceremony was witnessed by principal officers of Adekunle Ajasin University, including the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Olugbenga Ige; Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Prof. Adebisi Daramola; Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Olusegun Akinwumi; Registrar, Mr. Olugbenga Arajulu; Bursar, Mr. Tobi Orina, FCA; and a representative of the University Librarian, Dr. Felix Adewusi.
The College was represented by its Provost, Dr. Austin Ortiv, and the Liaison Officer, Dr. Segun Ogunleye, who signed the agreement on its behalf.
Addressing journalists after the signing, Dr. Ortiv expressed gratitude to the Vice-Chancellor of AAU, Prof. Ige, for approving the partnership and for the confidence reposed in the management of the College.
He disclosed that the College is now positioned to train and graduate professional educators equipped with both sound academic knowledge and practical entrepreneurial skills, following the agreement signed on Thursday, December 18, 2025, in Akungba Akoko.
According to him, “With this approval, the College now has the capacity to run several programmes, including degree programmes in education, a Certificate in Entrepreneurship, and an Advanced Certificate in Education. Our degree students are assured of graduating from one of Nigeria’s foremost universities.
“All processes relating to admission, curriculum, screening, examinations, and certification will be handled by Adekunle Ajasin University. Our students will also participate in the University’s matriculation and convocation ceremonies.”
Dr. Ortiv added that beyond academic qualifications, students of the College would receive hands-on training in entrepreneurship, covering areas such as business development, technology and engineering, as well as trade and craft skills, to prepare them for self-reliance and broader career opportunities after graduation.
