The All Progressives Congress (APC) has disqualified former National Secretary of the party, Senator Iyiola Omisore, and six other aspirants from participating in the forthcoming Osun State governorship primary scheduled for December 13, 2025. The decision followed the report of the APC Governorship Screening Committee headed by Dr. Obinna Uzoh, which found that the affected aspirants failed to meet the party’s mandatory nomination requirements, especially the provision of sponsorship by at least five financially up-to-date party members from each Local Government Area in the state.
Others disqualified alongside Omisore include Babatunde Haketer Oralusi, Oyedotun Babayemi, Dr. Akin Ogunbiyi, former Deputy Governor Benedict Alabi, Adegoke Rasheed Okiki and Hon. Babajide Omoworare. Only two aspirants, Mulikat Abiola Jimoh and Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, were cleared by the committee to contest the primary.
Dr. Uzoh said all aspirants underwent the same screening process and explained that the committee’s decision was based purely on adherence to the party’s rules and not on petitions or external pressures. He added that the exercise was conducted to maintain fairness, transparency and order within the party ahead of the primary election.
The disqualification is subject to final ratification by the APC National Working Committee (NWC), which is expected to review the report and communicate its decision to stakeholders. The development has triggered reactions within the Osun APC, especially due to the exclusion of top political figures who had expressed interest in the race. Observers say the outcome could reshape alliances and influence the political direction of the party as preparations for the governorship election intensify.
