Owo is bracing for a football fiesta as the grand finale of the Oba Ajibade Gbadegesin Ogunoye Sports Competition (Olowo’s Cup) comes alive on Tuesday, September 17, at the Rufus Giwa Polytechnic Sports Complex football pitch.

 

The highlight of the boys’ category will see Methodist High School, Owo, lock horns with fierce rivals Imade College, in what promises to be a classic showdown of skill, grit, and youthful energy. Both teams have lit up the competition with brilliant performances, and fans are already anticipating fireworks when the two giants clash for the coveted Olowo’s Cup title.

 

Adding more excitement to this year’s edition is the maiden female final, where Methodist High School, Owo, will battle St. Catherine Girls’ School. The match is historic as it marks the first-ever girls’ championship in the Olowo’s Cup, underscoring the competition’s growing inclusivity and commitment to promoting female participation in sports.

In a statement from the Bureau of Information in the Office of His Imperial Majesty, the Olowo of Owo, Oba (Dr.) Ajibade Gbadegesin Ogunoye III, the final is expected to be “glamorous and memorable,” bringing together football lovers, cultural enthusiasts, and community leaders.

 

The tournament is officially sponsored by Hon. Ajibola Adetula, Chairman/CEO of Afri-Print Group, from the renowned Oludasa Dynasty, whose support has elevated the grassroots competition into one of the most prestigious youth sporting events in Ondo State.

 

Dr. Olayinka Osho, Chairman of the Organizing Committee, and Mr. Sunday Ijanawo, Secretary, assured that all arrangements have been perfected to ensure a colorful and hitch-free final.

 

Sam Adewale, Special Assistant on Media to the Olowo, emphasized that the competition reflects His Imperial Majesty’s commitment to youth development, talent discovery, and using sports as a unifying tool in Owo kingdom.

 

With Methodist High School featuring in both finals and hungry to make history, and with Imade College and St. Catherine Girls determined to spoil the party, all roads will lead to Owo on September 17 for what promises to be a festival of football, culture, and community pride
