Senator Dave Umahi, Nigeria’s Minister of Works, has been honored as the 2024 Igbo Man of the Year by the Ohanaeze Ndigbo, outshining several Southeastern heavyweights in a year of intense competition.
Umahi’s exceptional leadership and achievements, particularly his innovative approach to infrastructure development, placed him ahead of notable figures like former presidential candidate Peter Obi, Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma, and Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Benjamin Kalu.
“His work on the rehabilitation of federal roads in the Southeast using advanced cement technology has revolutionized infrastructure in the region,” said Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, Secretary-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo. “By creating sustainable jobs and addressing security concerns along major highways, Umahi has fostered a safer, more connected Southeast.”
The organisation also highlighted Umahi’s skillful diplomacy in bridging the gap between the Southeast and the Federal Government, as well as his pivotal role in maintaining peace during nationwide protests. These contributions underscored his dedication to the region’s progress and unity.
The selection process, guided by Ohanaeze Ndigbo’s “Igbo Performance Perimeters and Indexes,” underscored Umahi’s outstanding impact compared to his peers.
Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu was also recognized as the second-best performer among National Assembly members, further showcasing the Southeast’s thriving leadership.thers
